Lindow’s is situated in the historic market town of Ulverston, nestling between the mountains and the sea on the southern edge of the Lake District National Park and just north of Morecambe Bay. Our double fronted shop sits on one of Ulverstons cobbled streets. Twice a week, Thursday and Saturday, there is a market with stalls carrying all manner of goods from clothing to organic eggs.
There is a Farmers Market held once a month with stalls selling local produce and local crafts. Small festivals have sprung up over the years giving rise to Ulverston being called “The li’ll festval town” Ulverston is the birthplace of Stan Laurel and home to the Laurel and Hardy museum.
The most visible landmark of the town is Hoad Monument, built in 1850 to commemorate Statesman and local resident Sir John Barrow. Just on the outskirts of the town is the Manjushri Centre which is the Mother Centre of a global network of over a thousand centres and groups that follow the Kadampa Buddhist Tradition.
The area around Ulverston has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and Ulverston itself is recorded in the Domesday Book 1066 as Ulvrestun which is an old Norse name.
